Farmingdale Adult Day Care holds a monthly support group for caregivers at the center on the last Wednesday of the month at 9:15 a.m. The meeting lasts for an hour and gives a forum for the participants’ loved ones to give and receive both emotional and practical support as well as exchange information. The group is held while the family member is attending the daycare. Outsiders are most welcome to attend the group as well.
Our support group is a safe place where members can share medical information, get confirmation that their feelings are normal, educate others in the group, or just let off steam. We also invite guest speakers-elder lawyers, directors of assisted living facilities and home health care agencies as well as representatives from the Alzheimer’s Association to relay up-to-date, reliable information as well as answer any questions the group members may have. Monthly discussion topics include how to handle aggressive behaviors, medical breakthroughs, medication problems, bathing and dressing issues, etc.
Come and experience how helpful a support group can be. There is no charge for this service but please call in advance to reserve a seat. 516-293-8928
